Infected teeth can be excruciatingly painful and cause serious damage to your dental health if they are left untreated. Dr. Walton has been performing successful root canals for years, and you can trust that he will eliminate your pain and repair your tooth with gentle, efficient care. If your tooth is infected, our root canal treatments will repair and protect your damaged tooth from further harm.

Signs of an Infected Tooth

Aside from pain, there are a few other ways to spot an infected tooth. Keep an eye out for these symptoms and give us a call if you experience any of the following:

  • Extreme sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures
  • Pain when chewing

The Root Canal Process

Contrary to popular belief, root canal therapy is not a very painful or extensive dental treatment. We use a localized anesthetic to numb the treatment area and to keep you as comfortable as possible. After your mouth is cleaned and numbed, Dr. Walton will use specialized tools to gently make a small hole in your tooth’s enamel. Then, he will remove any damaged or infected pulp and clean the inside of your tooth. The empty space will be filled with a material called “gutta percha”, which helps to keep the structure of your tooth intact and protect it from further harm.

Benefits of Root Canal Therapy

  • Save a tooth before it becomes too damaged and extraction is necessary
  • Avoid more costly restorative procedures like implants and dentures
  • Restore your tooth in just one appointment
  • Keep natural tooth
